I live on the south east side of chicago often times when people ask me where i am from it is so hard to explain that i liv eon the such east side near the indiana border... i have to mention landmarks such as the horse who casino or calumet park then the are becomes recognized. sometime people ask me if i live in "alphabet land". the reason why its called the alphabet land is because all of the avenue have a letter of the alphabet in it such as avenue b,c,d,e,f,g,j,l,m,n,o... it is really unique and cool i think. whenever i hear someone i say i live on avenue o i get so excited because i know exactly where that is. this neighborhood used to be predominately white and it is now becoming more of a minority neighborhood. this neighborhood used to be so friendly and quiet and ow often times gang violence is a huge fear for everyone around here. if you live in the 90's or the early 100's then its the worse part of the east side as the numbers keep going up it just keeps getting better.
Being from the south side of Chicago, I have to admit I know nothing about the southeast side of Chicago. I have rarely been east of the Dan Ryan Expressway (unless traveling to Indiana or Michigan on the highway). I did not know that an area of chicago used letters to designate the streets! That's very interesting and I would love to know more! What is the name of your neighborhood?
